In terms of gaming, we have a solid relationship with the post-apocalypse. Bethesda’s Fallout 3 continued one of my favourite franchises with a controversial shift away from an isometric top-down perspective in favour of a first person experience. While id Software’s Rage suffered from performance issues, a and boring last act despite that game having a lot of the hallmarks of a great first person shooter (meaty shotguns and near “oldskool” combat mechanics). In more recent memory, the 2015 Mad Max game was unexpected and thoroughly enjoyable. From Burntime on the Amiga and through to Fallout on PC. You can also check out some leaked gameplay footage here.Through the years I have played near countless games set in the post-apocalypse. Stay tuned for more details on the resolution and frame rate on the previous-gen. Releasing on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5 and PC, the shooter promises a solid 4K/60 FPS in dungeons and “mostly” 4K/60 FPS in open environments on current-gen consoles. Taking place in an alternative history Soviet Union, it sees players venturing into facility 3826 to stop its rogue robots. Atomic Heart is a mix of RPG and first-person shooter action with some immersive sim elements. What will be showcased is unknown, but the trailer’s description says it will showcase the “intrigue, setting, characters and deep mechanics” of the shooter. To further build hype, Focus Entertainment has confirmed a new gameplay trailer for February 1st, 5: 30 AM PST which features over eight minutes of footage. After numerous delays, it finally launches on February 21st after going gold earlier last week. Though it’s still a few weeks away, the hype is palpable for Mundfish’s Atomic Heart.
